VW Scirocco For Sale

Whilst the Italians are known for their distinctive flair and temperamental cars, the Germans have always been synonymous with engineering prowess and cutting-edge technology.

VW’s claim to fame has to be for creating timeless icons like the Combi van, Beetle, Golf and Polo. Attempting to fill a niche for a sports hatch, VW announced in June 2006, the production of the third generation VW Scirocco for sale model. Internally known as Typ 13, the Scirocco is based on the PQ35 platform of the Golf V, which first made public appearance at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

The Volkswagen Group is the world’s third largest motor vehicle manufacturer. Consisting of Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti and Porsche, the group also owns automotive design powerhouse Italdesign Giugiaro, through its subsidiary, Lamborghini Holding.

The sleek two-door coupe derives its name from the Italian word for the ‘Sirocco wind’ – at a period in history when Volkswagen caught the wind bug and started naming its vehicles after prominent winds, including the Passat (German word for ‘Trade wind’), Golf (after ‘Gulf Stream’), Bora (after, well… the ‘Bora’ wind), Polo (after ‘Polar Winds’), and Jetta (after ‘Jet Stream’).

The first iteration of the ‘Rocco was the 1979 VW Scirocco R, the production version of the sexy fast GT24 race car which raced at 24-hour races at Nurburging. It featured a 2.0-litre TSI engine rated at 261hp (195 kW) @ 6,000rpm and 350Nm @ 2,500rpm. The version I’ve had the opportunity to sample is the recently launched 1.4-litre TSI version – less power, yes, but no less attractive as a sporty daily drive.

I’m a fan of the VW Scirocco. I have been one ever since I laid eyes on the IROC concept in 2006. It looks the business, is well-built, rides and handles well. Given, it doesn’t offer the most engaging nor the best driving experience, but the entire package works.

Power on tap from the 1.4-litre TSI is highly impressive and this should satisfy those who enjoy spirited driving. I love the DSG transmission and reckon that it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Can’t imagine any other type of autobox that can offer this much excitement and precision on a daily basis. The clever combination of the TSI and DSG is simply genius. It’s just clinically German and addictive.

VW Scirocco for Sale – What to Look for?

As a buy, I’m still divided between this and the more comfortable and practical Golf. At RM188,000 and a bit, it’s 40 grand more, (note: two less doors) thus, everything starts to look expensive from then on. Especially when its four-door brother, the Golf, shares much of its underpinnings. On the other hand, being the rarer of the two, you will be savouring a little more exclusively and sportiness, and for some, this is more than worth the premium. Dieses ist gut. So gut.

Every 2009, and 2010 VW Scirocco for sale comes with unlimited mileage five-year warranty.
